Picturesque Church Stretton is an ideal base for exploring the National Trust site of the Long Mynd. The Long Mynd itself is a moor land plateau with the highest point at some 518m.
The plateau is home to a vast array of wildlife from butterfly and amazing large and hairy caterpillars to very friendly sheep (especially if you are trying to eat your lunch!).
The wildlife shares the plateau with a popular gliding club, walkers, mountain bikers and horse riders. The plateau is crossed by the Shropshire Way and several other bridle path routes making it an ideal place for mountain bikers.
There are a couple of pay and display car parks in Church Stretton itself, but the best place to park is probably the popular beauty spot of Carding Mill Valley. Here you’ll find refreshments and information points on the walking the Mynd.
