Wakefield has much to admire, including a 15th century cathedral and a 14th century Bridge Chapel which is on the town's medieval bridge across the River Calder.
A couple of top attractions worth seeing are the The National Coal Mining Museum and Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
The National Coal Mining Museum is the former Caphouse Colliery which recalls much of Yorkshire and the North's mining history. Visitors can actually go 140 metres underground and see what it was like to work there.
Another place to stop at is the Yorkshire Sculpture Park at Bretton Park near Wakefield. There's 500 acres of landscaped parkland with open air sculptures along with three indoor art galleries to explore. |
