Eating @ Coast - Oban

Weather forecast for the next 5 days for Oban, Argyll
Island of Kerrera

Whilst you are in Oban, why not build up an appetite by taking the foot ferry over to the nearby Island of Kerrera.

The summer ferry operates every half hour from 10:30 until 12:30, and then re-commences at 14:00 every half hour until 18:00. Return fares cost £3.00 for adults and £1.50 for children – you can also take your bicycles over for an extra £0.50 per cycle.

Paths across Kerrera
There is a circular route around the island, and the most popular route is the six mile southern route. We took mountain bikes, but be warned that there are quiet a few parts of route where you'll have to get off and push!
Approximately 2 miles into the walk you will come across the recently renovated Gylen Castle. Built in 1583 for the laird Duncan McDougall it was burnt down in1685. Thankfully it has now re-opened to visitors in May 2006 and is an excellent example of a Motte and Ballie.

Further round from the castle, you can drop into the Kerrera Bunkhouse & Tea Gardens for refreshments. Excellent homemade soups are on offer, but be sure to time your visits rights as the tea rooms aren’t open everyday.

Gylen - A MacDougall Stronghold
There is also a bunkhouse situated here for those wishing to visit the island for a little longer.
