Weather forecast for the next 5 days for St. Ives, Cornwall
Zennor
Zennor lies just south of St Ives and a regular bus service makes it readily accessable. There is also a car park between the back packers hostel and the village pub.  As well as a village pub which serves a good range of local ales and good food, sustenance can be sought at the back packers hostel which operates a café.  Zennor also has a small museum, The Wayside Museum covering a wide range of Cornish subjects including mining and milling. Wayside Museum Zennor

Zennor has may footpaths that pass close by and is an excellent base for walking the hills and coastline.

LetsGoThere took a circular well marked walk following the South West Coast Path from Zennor to The Carracks, which is commonly refered to as Seal Island, and back.  The South West Coast Path provides some breath taking views, The first part of the path is well maintained and easy walking.

Zennor Headland
The path soon gets trickier and the undulating route makes it a difficult walk.   The walk provides the opportunity for wild blackberry picking and seal spotting.  The seals can regularly be seen taking a rest floating in the coves such as Porthzennor Cove and Wicca Pool . Once the walk turns inland the going is much easier and the path from Treveal back to Zennor is suitable for all.  The path passes close by Tremedda Farm which is the home to Moomaid ice creams (the signs for which you’ll find all round St Ives) and a collection of Holiday Cottages.   Walk from Zennor to St Ives

The Zennor Mermaid

In the tale of the Zennor Mermaid, a local choirestier, Matthew Trewhella, sang so brilliantly that a mermaid living in the nearby Pendor Cove was captivated by his voice.  The mermaid put on a  long dress to hide her tail and made her way to the church to hear better.  Each day she would slip away before the end back to the sea.

One day she stayed too long and was seen by the Matthew;  she was very beautiful and they fell in love immediately.  The mermaid could stay on shore only for short periods, and she had to tell Matthew that she was from the sea.  He insisted that he return with her to the sea. He carried her back to the cove and followed back into the water never to be seen again.

The legend is completed by the claim that if you go to Pendour  Cove at sunset in the summer you may be able to hear Matthew singing still.  An ornately carved bench in the Zennor’s St. Senara church shows the mermaid.
