Polmanter Tourist Park is in Halestown just outside St Ives and sports a shop, bar, pool, excellent facilities, well laid out pitches and views over the bay of St.Ives.
We had visited St Ives for a day back in May whilst on our Falmouth 2005 trip and discovered the problems of parking in St Ives was similar to that of most seaside towns. However, during the high season Polmanter runs an hourly bus service between the campsite and the town’s Royal Square, and there is a country foot path that runs from the site’s entrance down to the town too.
The shop is large and licensed and sells many of the items you are likely to have left at home! It is also open late into the evening, though doesn’t open until 9 in the morning, so if you are early risers like us you need to make sure you have enough food for breakfast the night before. The shop also operates a freezer block swapping service.
The pub & restaurant which is situated by the open air pool, has an adult only section, a family smoking section and the largest section is the family non-smoking section – ideal for younger kids. The pub was reasonable prices with friendly staff always wanting to know what you had been up to today.
Just outside the pub is a games room, so your youngsters can have fun playing table tennis or pool whilst you have a relaxing drink, knowing they are close at hand.
A take away food outlet is also available by the games room. St Ives has of course a huge range of eateries and because the campsite to town bus runs until late into the evening (during high season) you are free to indulge yourself in town.
We asked a few other people we met on the site where else they had been camping and how they likes the site. All the caravaners and campers we met agreed that Polmanter was one of the best sites they had been to and many were repeat visitors.
In summary Polmanter is what every campsite should be and made our holiday complete – though we did have excellent weather whilst we were there which always helps when camping.
