This is the original site of Tynwald, the ancient Manx Government and Tynwald is claimed to be the world’s oldest continuous parliment. Today, acts passed in the capital Douglas, only become law once they have been proclaimed here on Tynwald Hill on the 5th July. This is known as Tynwald Day and the annual open-air parliament that is followed by a colourful pageant, a fair and concerts celebrating the island.
