With a popular sandy beach and a fine castle rising from the harbour, Peel has a very ‘Manx’ appeal. Much of the towns traditional character remains, from the Tuesday Market to the kipper smoking factories along the harbour. The town is also well known for its fabulous sunsets over the ruins of Peel Castle.
Peel Castle was built on the site of a 7-8th century Monastry the site was first fortified by the Vikings and went on to become the residence of the Kings of Mann until 1220. The house of Manannan Heritage centre houses interesting and participatory exhibits on island history and legend.
