Severn miles north of Douglas the main attraction at Laxey is the 72ft ‘Lady Isabella’ Great Laxey Wheel that used to pump water from the local lead mines. You can catch the Manx Electric Railway from Douglas to Laxey. It drops you off at the start of the Snaefell Mountain Railway. The tramcars then take you up through the moorland to the islands highest point Snaefell (2036 ft). On clear days you can see England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland from the top.
