Alderney is the Channel Island closest to France but even though the French are only eight miles away the islanders remain resolutely British.

Take a ride on the standard gauge railway, enjoy a guided tour of the island's lighthouse or learn about the history of the island in the museum.
Another birdwatcher's paradise, there are over 260 different species to see. Head for Burhou Island, just two miles from Braye Harbour where there is a bird sanctuary.
There's plenty of places to enjoy everything from pub snacks to fresh seafood and in May the island's top chefs host the annual Seafood Festival Week and Salon Culinaire - a gastronomic delight.
