South Ayrshire

South Ayrshire is Robert Burns country and the most picturesque part of Ayrshire.

A must see is Burns National Heritage Park in nearby Alloway. Here you'll uncover the story of Scotland's foremost poet and see a lot in a small area including the small thatched cottage where he was born on 25th January 1759.
There's everythingfor the Burns fan  including picturesque Brig O'Doon (literally Bridge over the River Doun) where Tam O'Shanter's horse lost its tail to the Kirk said to be the inspiration for the story.
There's also the Burns Monument which was opened to the public in 1823 as a trribute to Scotland's most famous son.
Ayr itself is a lovely town to visit and there's a prosperous  feel about the place.
South Ayrshire is also a draw for golf fans, with Troon and the more famous Turnberry situated here.
Getting here is easy as the area has its own airport- the bizarrely named Glasgow Prestwick Airport, even though it's actually 30 miles form Glasgow!
