| | | Anglesey is a place apart from the rest of the country, situated off the north west coast of Wales and separated by the Menai Strait. |
| It has a special place in the history of Wales - earning the nickname Mother of Wales because its' fertile land provided much of the food for Wales during the Middle Ages. |
| It's also an island of great interest to archaeologists. It's believed that people were living here as far back as 7000 BC and a result there are many historical sites to visit. |
| You'll also find 125 miles of relatively unspoilt coastline with something for everyone - beaches, castles, and plenty to keep youngsters amused including a zoo, butterfly park and farm parks. |
| There are several towns worth a look including Beaumaris - the site of yet another Edward I castle built after he defeated the Welsh princes. |
| The main ferry port is Holyhead, which is a busy route taking people across the Irish Sea to Dublin. |
Anglesey also has a rather unusual claim to fame - the village with the longest name in Britain. |
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch literally means "The church of St. Mary in a hollow of white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and near St. Tysilio's church by the red cave." |
| Incredibly, the name is not a natural one - it was actually dreamed up in the 19th century to bring tourists to the area. It's big relief to find most locals call it Llanfair PG for short - it saves a lot of time! |
| Getting to Anglesey used to be a sometimes hazardous sea journey but these days there are two bridges including the Menai Bridge- the world's first ever suspension bridge. |
