Scarborough
Scarborough stakes a claim as Britain's first ever seaside resort and this could be the case, as the coastal town has been attracting visitors for more than 400 years.
As well as the sea and sand, the town has quite a range of off-beat museums and experiences to keep all ages amused.
Try the Rotunda -  a striking looking circular shaped museum housing archaeology or Scarborough Millennium - which takes visitors though 1,000 years of history.
Scarborough was once a spa town - in the 1600s people used to flock to the resort to partake of the water in the hope it would cure all manner of aches and pains.
Nearby is another well known seaside town - Bridlington, which also has sandy beaches to explore.
