Towcester is one of the main towns in the south of the county and boasts a racecourse dating back to 1876 which is said to be one of the hardest National Hunt courses to negotiate.
The town itself has a huge Roman influence and is the oldest town in the county.
A must while in this part of the county is the pretty canalside village of Stoke Bruerne, where an excellent Canal Museum is a popular tourist attraction.
Two hundred years of canal history is on display here and it's a great place for a day out - learn about the history, enjoy a meal with some stunning views or even venture onto the water yourself and find out what narrowboats are all about.
