Newark is paradise for antique collectors and you'll discover many dealers live and work in the town.
For some real antique hunting try and catch the Newark International Antiques Fair, which is held six times a year at the showground. Here you will find more than 4,000 stalls selling everything from maps to pottery - a real fun day out whether you're a collector or not.
The town itself is dominated by a church and a ruined castle but it's also a place just to wander around and enjoy the old-fashioned atmosphere.
Also worth visiting is the nearby Pureland Meditation Centre and Japanese Garden.
Designed by a Buddhist monk called Maitreya, it offers not only a calming sanctuary away from the stresses of normal life but the chance to take part in a Japanese tea ceremony.
