Morpeth is one of the more attractive towns in Northumberland, by the River Wansbeck between Newcastle and the Scottish Borders.
Wander around the town and you can't escape noticing the 17th century tower which was a combined court house, police station and gaol.
For a noisy few hours head for the Chantry and Bappipe Museum which tells the story (through earphones thankfully!) of these musical instruments.
Nearby attractions include National Trust owned Wallington Hall, which includes an early 20th century doll's house as well as woodlands, a walled garden and lakes.
