Clitheroe is a small market town on the banks of the River Ribble. It holds markets every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. To get a good view of the town visit the Norman keep of Clitheroe Castle. Nearby is Pendle Hill where the ten Pendle Witches were hung in 1612, the summit gives a great view of the Forest of Bowland and the Irish Sea. Their memory is perpetuated by a hilltop gathering each Halloween. A few miles south of here are the ruins of Whalley Abbey.
