Hinckley
At one time Hinckley was thought of as a spa town, for the healing qualities of the water but is better known as a centre for hosiery, an industry which still dominates the town today.
Like many town centres, it is now pedestrianised and means shoppers can enjoy the busy thrice weekly markets.

Part of a conservation area, the town is part of the pretty Leicestershire towns which are well worth a drive through at the very least.

The museum gives an insight into the part Hinckley has played in everything from hosiery to transport - Joseph Hansom built the proptype Black Hansom Taxi Cab in the town in 1835.

Nearby is the pretty village of Market Bosworth, scene of the 1485 Battle of Bosworth when Richard III uttered the immortal words: "A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse." It was here he lost his crown to Henry Tudor in the War of the Roses.

To find out about this colourful period of English history, stop at the Bosworth Battlefield Vistor Centre which holds special events throughout the summer.
