The winding serpentine lake of Ullswater and the dominating summit of Helvellyn make this one of the best lakes to visit. At over seven miles long its particularly popular with sailors and its winding shape makes the lake particularly appealing. The nearby villages of Patterdale and Glenridding are both popular with walkers heading for Helvellyn.
