Alum Bay and The Needles

The cliffs of Alum Bay and the chalk stacks of The Needles are the focal point of the Islands western tip.   It’s a 20 minutes walk to the lookout on top of the 3 chalk stacks known as The Needles.  They are best seen from the sea and boat trips are available from the Alum Bay or the Old Battery.  The Old Battery is a fort dating from 1862, more recently in the 1950s they tested rocket engines there.

The Needles Pleasure Park offers visitors fairground amusements and there is a chair lift that runs down the cliffs of Alum Bay.
