Yarmouth is a pleasant town situated at the mouth of the River Yar. From here ferries leave to the mainland port of Lymington in the New Forest area. Yarmouth Castle is a gun fort originally built by Henry VIII. Today it holds exhibitions of paintings and photography from around the island. The Yar estuary is a popular with walkers and bird watchers.
Nearby in Fort Victoria Country Park there is an aquarium, a planetarium, a sunken history exhibition focussing on marine archeology, and a model railway, along side the pleasant walks through woodland and beside the coast. |
