Milton Keynes
Better known as as new town than an old one, it might be surprising to learn that Milton Keynes has a history long before the 1970s.
The Milton Keynes Museum is the perfect place to find out about life before the so called Master Plan to build a new kind of town.

Bletchley, Stony Stratford, Wolverton and New Bradwell, together with 13 villages and the brickfields to the south west of Bletchley were chosen to  create a town which would be home for 150,000 Londoners.

The revolutionary design - with streets on a grid system, a staggering 200 roundabouts and street names designated by a letter and number (like H2)- has been much criticised over the years.
Now attempts are being made to try and make what is a successful city in terms of economy, a bit more tourist friendly. It's notoriously difficult for strangers to find their way around.
It's very much a young person's place- almost half the 200,000+ populatio nare aged under 30.
If you can find your way around , then head for the theatre or for the major shopping centre. Kids will enjoy the Gulliver's Land Theme Park, with rides for children as young as two years old.
