Chippenham
Chippenham was once an important centre for the wool trade and also a market place for cheese and corn.
The opening of the Great Western Railway helped the town to flourish and these days it's a busy place, not far from National Trust owned Lacock.
For a gentle day out try Lackham Country Park, which includes a thatched barn, Victorian walled garden and animals ranging from donkeys to exotic alpacas.
