This picturesque village looks like an English rural idyll. It was created during 18th century to replace the original village of Middleton that a local Earl considerded to be a blot on his estate. The village was uprooted from its original valley location together with its 14th and 15th century Abbey Church. This area is rich in iron age hillfort settlements such as, Rawlsbury Camp, Hambledon Hill, and Bradbury Rings.
