The main reason people stop at Ely is to admire the cathedral - praised as one of the finest Norman churches in the country.
It dominates the town and is a feast for the eyes - beautifully ornate cravings and a spectacular octagon shaped tower, which took 14 years to build and has a spectacular roof.
Tours of the octagon are possible during from April until September but don't worry if you miss this, there's plenty else to see.
Within the cathedral is the Stained Glass Museum, which includes work by William Norris.
There's also an Oliver Cromwell influence here as her once lived in the town and you can still visit his half timbered house today.
