Norwich
Norwich is the 'capital' of Norfolk and an ideal base from which to explore this part of the country.
Dominated by the castle and the magnificent 900 year old cathedral, Norwich was the largest walled town in medieval England and the influence from those times can still be clearly seen in the buildings and cobbled streets.
The shoe industry has been an important part of the area's industry for 400 years. But these days you'll wear  out a pair of shoes just exploring the buildings and quaint streets of Norwich.
There are many museums which tell the story of the city but make a special effort to stop at the Bridewell Museum which tells the stories of the footwear, textile and flour-milling industries which have helped the city flourish.
And stop at the Mustard Shop - a small exhibition about one of Norfolk's
most famous exports - Colman's Mustard.
Art fans should also take time out to visit the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts,
at the University of Anglia. The centre hosts various exhibitions and is a leading centre for sculpture. The building itself has won many awards.
Norwich also has an interesting mixture of speciality shops - ideal for a day's wandering. And it's home to the country's largest six day open air market.
