Michelin-starred chef-owner Andreas Antona has a created a culinary wonderland with Simpsons, a Georgian mansion in an upmarket conservation area a mile from Birmingham city centre. Simpsons has the feel of a chic, country house but there's nothing stuffy about it. Antona and his genius team guarantee modern French cooking at its most exquisite. The best way to sample their talent is through the seven-course tasting menu. But if time is limited, there's a wealth of perfected dishes to choose from - firm favourites being the fillet of Aberdeenshire beef cooked on the bone, and fillet of sea bream with potato scales and leeks à la crème... Simpsons well deserves its reputation as one of the Midlands' top restaurants.
Simpsons' elegant private dining room is very French with a long, black table that can seat up to 18. Windows line the long, high-ceilinged wall overlooking the verandah bordering a lovely garden. Separate bar and lounge. A lengthy, serious wine lists some very well-chosen bottles; the finest will set you back over £1000.
