'It doesn't make the most of the river' is a frequent moan about London. Step forward Pissarro's restaurant, slap bang on the Thames in an out-of-the-way corner of Chiswick. Pissarro's does its peaceful waterside location ample justice with big picture windows and a sunny terrace where you can dine to the sound of lapping water, with stunning and unexpectedly rural views across to Barnes. You can even arrive by boat and moor up at Chiswick Pier. The food is equally lovely. Start the ball rolling with a delicate wild garlic soup or seared fois gras with spring onion pancake and tomato jam. For mains, try grilled swordfish with caponata and a spicy yoghurt dressing, or the gutsy spinach pappardelle with tomato, red wine, red peppers and basil. Snug in the winter, idyllic in the summer, Pissarro's is a great reason to go down to the river.
