A village pub this may well be, tucked into leafy Barnsley, but with a head chef like Richard Burkert who has brought a weath of experience to the kitchen. After training along side Sonja Kidney, Richard worked at, the Marsh Goose in Moreton in the Marsh. He went on to cook at Kensington Place and The Chiswick in London, restaurants' in Spain and South Africa. Using the freshest ingredients and keeping the menu (which changes daily) very simple, Burket has created dishes like Saute Cornish scallops with pea puree & mint vinaigrette, and home made Sashimi tuna with mouli, wasabi & soya sauce. Then there are mains like Gressingham duck breast with butternut squash ragout, honey, ginger & soy, or Bacon chop with olive oil mash and herbs. Vegetarian dishes are cooked to order. The place is charming inside and out, and the ambience is that of a relaxed and thriving country pub, chock full of happy locals and visitors.
