Independent bar and kitchen Moomba is a much-loved fixture on the Putney food and drink scene because it slickly manages to be all things to all people (especially those with hangovers!). By day, it's busy with local businesses and young families feasting on the famed brunch or all-day breakfast. At £15 for three courses, the lunch specials are fantastic value. Come evening, Moomba becomes more of a bar and candlelit post-work hangout for local friends and young couples. The evening menu presents a more ambitious menu of stuffed poussin, medallions of lamb rump, roast duck and the like. Add easy-going staff, good drinks and an airy, modern décor to the mix and you have an all-round good egg of a neighbourhood bar and kitchen.
Moomba's back section holds seated private events for 35 people, or receptions/dinner dances of 55. Parties of around 100 guests would suit exclusive hire. Wooden flooring throughout means you can dance anywhere you like. Highly affordable international wine list (£13.50 to £21.50); five reds, five whites by the glass. Classic cocktails from £5.95; fantastic Mojitos.
