Built in the early 19th century and one of the oldest buildings in the area, the King Eddie (as it's affectionately known) looks like an old man's boozer from the outside. But inside it's comfy and has lots of period features, including wood paneling, church pew-style seating, fireplaces - all attracting a youngish crowd, especially on Thursdays; open mic night. The upstairs bar's been converted into a rustic-style restaurant with old farmhouse tables gathered beneath a sky light. The food's of the simple, seasonal 'best of British' sort, like grilled sea bass for two, wild rabbit, and honey roast pork belly. It's good stuff. Great beer menu too. It changes, but you'll usually find the likes of Timothy Taylor Landlord and Bombardier on draught.

Information for Groups

The airy 32 cover restaurant fits 60 guests for a reception. The back bar downstairs is also available for hire for groups of up to 60. Its big Chesterfield sofas and fireplace give it a bit of a gents club feel. There are a further 20ish covers in the yard out the back. A la carte, reduced a la carte and set menus are served to groups. As for entertainment, there's regularly something going on at King Eddie's. Thursday is acoustic/open mic night, while Sunday is quiz night, kicking off at 8.30. Babies and children are welcome in the restaurant, though not the bar, which is suitable for post dinner drinks - a bottle of Traquair House Jacobite ale, maybe?
