Nestling in the West Sussex countryside, Denmans Garden is the home of renowned landscape designer John Brookes. But whether or not you're a green-fingered garden-lover, it's worth a visit here just for the Garden Café, which won Les Routiers Café of the Year 2005 for London and the South East. Go al fresco if the weather comes up trumps, or relax inside on the beautiful covered terrace, filled with orchids and potted palms. The café, which is licensed, serves freshly-made sandwiches, omelettes and jacket potatoes in everyone's favourite types, or if it's tea-time you can tuck into a proper cream tea and a nice cuppa. Heartier appetites will be thrilled to discover the Higgidy Pies, which come in three sorts: creamy chicken and ham, fisherman's or Mediterranean vegetables with feta, all surrounded by the lightest of pastry. Check out the garden before you leave - it really is lovely.
