How often do you run into something that's not only fun to say, but delicious to eat? Named after a traditional spicy tomato and onion salsa, Chakalaka specializes in all things South African. One of the few truly authentic South African joints in the city, Chakalaka caters for both the homesick and the adventurous eater. Taste buds will be tickled at the out-of-the-ordinary variety on the menu, with lots of home grown favourites and imported exotic meats. Start your adventure with boerewors and chakalaka, a traditional South African farmer's sausage served with spicy tomato and onion salsa and sweet corn miele pap. Mains continue the unusual theme with springbok (antelope) loin with slow roast buttery root vegetables garnished with red onion marmalade and spinach puree. Make sure to save room for dessert, they're a firm favourite with the regular visitors. Friendly, cheerful service is sure to please.
Chakalaka's African-inspired private function room can seat up to 30 people or 50 standing, perfect for smaller events, birthdays, anniversaries or a gathering of ex-pats. Have something a bit larger in mind? You can book out the entire restaurant exclusively any day of the week between 12pm - 5pm for up to 100 people. South African wines take centre stage here, and with many bottles under £20, you can afford to try a few.
