Completely refurbished to recapture its former magnificence, this 16th-century hotel offers character and useful facilities in a central location.
Established by the Pilgrim Fathers in 1540, the ancient Tudor House Hotel aims to take a step back in time. A chimney in the Mayor's Parlour conceals a priest's hole, while axe marks reputedly made by Cromwell's soldiers can be seen on the old oak door leading to a secret garden.
Tudor House also offers a setting for conferences. A full bar serves Real Ales and the restaurant delivers fresh food at reasonable prices.
This historical building once housed the Court of Justice of King James I. It has also been a Dissenter's college, and later still, the Mayor's house.
