The George, as it was originally known, is believed to have been 1st built in the 14th or 15th century. Charlotte Bronte was a regular visitor to the hotel when visiting friends at Hathersage vicarage. She was so taken with the hotel that she used it and its characters as models for her book Jane Eyre. The hotel is beautifully situated in the heart of the Peak District.
