Weather forecast for the next 5 days for George Hotel

George Hotel

Directly opposite the railway station, in the heart of Huddersfield, this beautifully preserved classic Victorian railway hotel is known around the world as the birthplace of Rugby League.

Originally built in 1851, the George Hotel has been carefully preserved as an elegant Grade II listed building. In 1895, the building played host to the meeting that founded Rugby League Football. Within the hotel itself is the UK’s only Rugby League heritage museum, which houses memorabilia and great artefacts from the game. Galpharm Stadium, home to Huddersfield Giants Rugby League Football Club and Huddersfield Town Football Club is less than a mile (1.6 km) away. The hotel is situated on the main square, in the very centre of town. All of Huddersfield’s shops, restaurants, bars and museums are within easy walking distance. The M62 motorway is just a 10-minute drive and the Pennines are also only minutes away. Free parking is available for guests. There are 60 en suite rooms, all with TVs, tea/coffee making facilities, telephones, hairdryers and ironing facilities. The hotel’s recently refurbished restaurant, St Georges, offers an à la carte menu, along with daily specials. There is also The Founders Bar and the traditional hotel lounge, where you can relax with a drink.
