North Highlands

The North Highlands are just that - the more remote towns and villages where life is at a different pace.

It's where you'll find yet more breathtaking scenery and communities right on the tip of Scotland - villages like Wick, Caithness, Thurso and John O' Groats.

Take a trip around the coastline and discover some breathtaking clifftop views as well as many ruined castles, ravaged by the climate and battles.
This is a stunning area for birdlife. The Dunnet Bay area is home to hundreds of birds both common and rare.
And there's plenty of information on the best places to go for those rare sightings.
Caithness and Sutherland has one of the largest peatlands - known as blanket bog - in the world, with the result that the area is home to unusual flora and fauna.
It's also a magnet for everything from golden eagles to red deer and wild cats.
As well as being a wildlife paradise this area also has its' own proud history. Explore beautiful Dornoch Cathedral or learn about Wick's links with the sea at their award winning museum.
It's not a place to rush about - it's remote but worth the effort.
