Midlothian often gets overlooked in the same way as Falkirk does- because it's too close to the Capital city for comfort.
Situated south of Edinburgh, the area which includes Penicuik, Dalkeith and smaller towns like Cousland and Rosewell all have their own distinct character and communities and wouldn't welcome being classed as Edinburgh surburbs.
The area is fairly industrial and the Scottish Mining Museum at Newtongrange gives a fascinating insight into the world of 'black diamonds' and how important mining has been to Scotland before its decline.
The links with Edinburgh and main routes mean it is now re-establishing itself as a centre for the biotechnology industry.
