East Lothian
Home of John Knox, who founded the Scottish Presbyterian Church, the influence of East Lothian in the history of Scotland is there for all to see. Out of Edinburgh comes the old London road built by the Romans through Musselburgh to the coast at Cockenzie.
Travel along the coast and you'll find the beautiful beaches of Gullane and Yellowcraigs and the historic towns of North Berwick and Dunbar. In the past Dunbar had a castle which was originally built to fend off English invasions but was destroyed in 1568 because of the ties with Mary Queen Of Scots.
Today Dunbar sports a harbour which supports a strong fishing industry. Dunbar is also known for the production of malting, used in the whisky industry.
