Central Scotland

Central Scotland covers a wide area, from Edinburgh in the east to Glasgow and Greenock and north up as far as Dundee.

But essentially it's where you will find the largest towns and cities and the most choice in the way of nightlife, restaurants, shopping and entertainment which you don't need to search far to find.

Streets in Edinburgh

It's also where the largest concentration of the Scottish population lives and works - with more in common with other towns and cities in Britain than in the 'other' Scotland - that of the Highlands and Islands.

It may be busier but can still be as picturesque and if you are after beautiful scenery but prefer the bustle of towns and cities it's an ideal combination.

A brand new attraction in Central Scotland for 2002 is The Falkirk Wheel.
The Falkirk Wheel is as much a sculpture for the 21st Century as an exceptional feat of engineering.
Designed to reconnect the Forth & Clyde and Union Canals between Glasgow and Edinburgh, the Wheel is a fitting symbol for the £78 million Millennium Link project, the largest UK canal restoration ever.
