Ballvaughan is known as The Gatway to the Burren. The Burren is a large limestone area, frequented by botanists and naturalists, studying the Artic, Apline and Mediterranean plants which can be found growing in abundance. The area is also of great geological interest.
The Ballyvaughan must have been important too for the predecessors too, as the area is surrounded by tombs, forts, churches and castles.
Ballyvaughan is close to a 1km long tunnel cave that can be visited. The tunnel was created by melting snow. |
