| | Solihull is thought by many to be merely a posh suburb of Birmingham but it is actually a separate area with its own council.
Situated on the leafy borders of Birmingham and just five minutes from historic cities like Warwick and Leamington Spa, this is becoming a growing centre for business and housing, with many people choosing the area for good schools, transport links and shopping facilities.
It's actually the home of Birmingham Airport and the National Exhibition Centre - a fact which irks Silhillians, as locals are called.
Shopping in the town has been massively improved by the recent opening of Touchwood, a major shopping centre with John Lewis, High Street stores, restaurants, cafes and a multi-screen cinema complex.
The areas within the Solihull boundary are a mix of housing developments and villages, like Knowle, Dorridge and Meriden, which have become popular places to live.
Worth visiting are two of the nearby National Trust properties - Baddesley Clinton and Packwood House - in beautiful rural settings, yet just a five minute drive from Solihull town centre.
