Stoke-on-Trent is centre of The Potteries - the area where ceramics have been produced for hundreds of years and still are today. The Potteries themselves are six towns: * the city of Stoke * Tunstall * Burslem * Hanley * Fenton * Longton
This is the home of some of the best known names in the ceramic world such as Wedgwood, Royal Doulton and Portmeirion and there are plenty of museums and factories to visit. Etruria Industrial Museum near Stoke-on-Trent is a restored potter's and bone mill by the canal and the Wedgwood Visitor Centre is another must. Some, like the Gladstone Working Pottery Museum in Longton will even let you have a go at throwing a pot! |
