Macclesfield is best known for the silk industry which grew up around this Cheshire town.
During the 1800s scores of mills were built in the area but the industry survived until 1981 when Paradise Mill finally closed. This is now a museum where visitors can learn about the 1930s period of its history.
A Silk Trail guides tourists round some of the more important sites in the town and just a short distance from Paradise Mill is the Silk Museum, where there's a shop and cafe as well.
