Wiltshire
Wiltshire contains some of England's most intriguing sites and the prettiest villages.
The countryside is dotted with ancient mysteries like Stonehenge, the Avebury Stone Circle and the Westbury White Horse.
The view of Salisbury Cathedral from the meadow has been described as the most glorious sight in Britain.
And the unspoilt village of Castle Combe justly deserves the title of 'prettiest village' in England.
Add the fascinating village of Lacock - a place almost entirely under the care of the National Trust and you'll see why many palces in England are regarded as the quintessential England.
The area also attracts thousands of visitors every year because of the crop circles - huge, sometimes intricate patterns - which appear as if by magic in the fields. Opinion is divided as to the source of the circles but they are a fascinating sight nonetheless.
