This ancient Saxon town on the Wiltshire border is home to the ruins of Shaftesbury Abbey. As the highest town in the area the view from the highest point, Gold Hill, is superb. Today this is a thriving market town and the traditional High Street has an intriguing collection of shops and specialist retailers.
