Grimsby - Once the worlds largest fishing port

The largest town in Lincolnshire, Grimsby is essentially a fishing port.
The first fish dock opened here in 1856 but it was during thr 1950s that the town was at its busiest when it was the world's largest fishing port.

To find out all about its' links with the sea on which the town relies so heavily, visit the National Fishing Heritage Centre where you get a realistic experience of what it's like to be on a deep sea trawler.

The Dock Tower dominated the skyline and was built to open the lock gates and work the cranes. It stands more than 300 feet high and has listed building status. Visitors are occasionally allowed up to enjoy the spectacular views from the top.
