South Yorkshire is inextricably linked with coalmining, no where more so than in Barnsley, where coal was king for over 100 years.  Those days are long gone and many of the towns which relied one big employer have had to move on. 

Sheffield, best known as the home of steel , especially cutlery, is a place where's plenty to do - lots of shopping, industrial heritage and green spaces with ski centres and country parks to enjoy.
