Fancy a day out messing about on the river? Then Henley-on-Thames, right in the south-east of Oxfordshire, is the place to go. It's a centre for boat builders, boat hire companies and general boat enthusiasts.
Best known for their annual Royal Regatta in July, this is a tempting collection of boutique style shops , cafes and bistros. all with a perfect riverside setting by the Thames. The regatta, which attracts the great and the good from all over the country, has been held since 1839. Parking is tight, especially in the summer so it's worth getting there early to enjoy a stress free look around.
The Henley River and Rowing Museum will give an insight into the story of the town and the Thames. Taking the past, present and future as its themes, here you can even see new bronze sculptures of British Olympic rowing heroes Sir Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsett. |
