Most people come to Southwell to marvel at Southwell Minster, a church with two large spires visible miles away. The visit is well rewarded with examples of stunning craftmanship - the intricate carvings, especially of flowers, foliage and animals throughout the Norman church are simply exquisite.
The nearby half-timbered Saracen's Head Inn has a claim to fame as the place where Charles I spent his last night as a free man before surrendering to the Scots in 1646. |
