The town which gives Lincolnshire its name, is a busy place, dominated by a hugely impressive cathedral which dates back to the 11th century. The cathedral is said to represent the gateway to heaven and inside you'll see why with a feast of medieval stained glass, choir stalls and other finds.
Lincoln is the heart of Lincolnshire, with 85,000 people living here. For tourists there's plenty to see, including the Norman castle and a thriving arts programme which includes art shows at the Usher Gallery, a Water Carnival and a Christmas market held in early December.
The city was also the unlikely place where the military tank was invented. These days the main industry is agriculture and being the administrative heart of the county. |
